Fall Prevention Program

Fall injuries are the number one reason why older adults have trouble living independently. Most elderly individuals who suffer a fall never fully recover from their injuries. Maybe your loved one has fallen before, or you want to prevent future injury from a fall. That’s where our attentive caregivers come in.

Fall Prevention Services Safeguard Against Injury

Because of reduced mobility and decreased strength, older adults are more likely to slip, trip, or fall than younger people. They are also at higher risk of being injured in a fall, and often these injuries can be debilitating or life-threatening. Lots of older adults have to transition into assisted living after a bad fall, and we’d like to prevent that.

Our caregivers are specially trained to keep your aging loved one safe. This includes keeping pathways clear of dangerous obstacles in the home and providing standby or hands-on assistance during ambulation, sitting and standing, and climbing stairs.

Our fall prevention programs can include the following services:

  • Evaluate home the environment to ensure it is safe based on physical ability
  • Evaluate balance and physical strength
  • Review side effects of medications that may cause dizziness
  • Ensure proper medical equipment — cane, walker, wheelchair, etc. — are available to assist with walking
  • Evaluate the need for handrails and grab bars

How to Determine Fall Risk

We consider elderly adults a fall risk if they are in danger of tripping, slipping, or falling in their homes.

Older adults who display one or more of the following could be identified as a fall risk:

  • Decreased strength
  • Reduced mobility
  • Coordination problems
  • Vision and hearing loss
  • Disorders like Alzheimer’s, Dementia, and Parkinson’s
  • Medications that cause drowsiness
  • Arthritis
